A Culinary Journey Along Mexico's Coasts

Caracol, Spanish for snail or conch, takes its name from Chef Hugo Ortega's memories of preparing conch ceviche with his brother in Playa del Carmen. That moment, rooted in family, seafood, travel, and the beauty of the Mexican coast, became the inspiration for an award-winning restaurant dedicated to Mexico's shoreline cuisine.

LED BY CHEF HUGO ORTEGA AND TRACY VAUGHT

Caracol is the coastal Mexican concept from Chef Hugo Ortega and Restaurateur Tracy Vaught. Located near the Galleria on Post Oak Boulevard in Houston, the restaurant is focused on the seafood traditions, regional flavors, and culinary diversity of Mexico's coastal states.

A MENU SHAPED BY THE SHORELINE

The menu is designed as a culinary tour along Mexico's coasts, which are shared by 16 of the country's states. Guests can begin with crudos, cocteles, escabeches, and ceviches, then explore antojitos, soups, salads, moles, regional entrées, and wood-fired dishes from the custom oven. Signature offerings include wood-roasted Gulf oysters with chipotle butter, whole roasted fish, fresh seafood preparations, and dishes inspired by the Pacific, Caribbean, and Gulf regions of Mexico.

SEAFOOD WITH PURPOSE

Caracol celebrates the bounty of the ocean while emphasizing responsible sourcing and stewardship. The restaurant highlights seafood not only as an ingredient, but as a connection to Mexico's coastal communities, fishing traditions, and regional cooking.

DESSERTS, COCKTAILS, AND COASTAL DESIGN

The experience continues with desserts by Pastry Chef Ruben Ortega, including the signature El Coco, a chocolate coconut-shaped shell filled with coconut buttercream, ganache, and streusel. The beverage program features wine, beer, spirits, and craft cocktails that complement the upbeat coastal atmosphere.

A BEACH GETAWAY IN HOUSTON

Inside, Caracol blends rustic, industrial, modern, and traditional design elements with a natural palette of sand, straw, and blue. Marine artwork, Mexican cave painting motifs, sailcloth waves, and coastal details create a transportive setting that brings the energy of Mexico's beaches to Houston.
